Tru-Skin Dermatology takes pride in promoting healthy skin for patients of all ages. Our dermatologists are dedicated to providing exceptional patient care. Frequently Asked Questions
Insurance plans vary significantly. Coverage and benefits will be specific to your state, your employer, and your specific insurance plan.
You need to have the following to verify coverage prior to making your appointment:
- Current insurance card – make sure you have your current insurance card (from this year)
- Active plan – make sure your current insurance plan is active and ask what skin care providers are in your network
We will verify eligibility and benefits:
- Coverage will vary based on the type of service and provider.
- If you have an HMO, we will need an active referral for dermatology services.
NOTE: We can verify eligibility and some of your benefits. For all benefit information, reach out to your insurance carrier. Ultimately, you, the patient, are responsible for understanding your insurance coverage and for ensuring your services are covered and/or paid.
When you schedule an appointment with Pinnacle Dermatology, we reserve that time to provide you with the highest quality of care. If you need to cancel an appointment, please contact our scheduling office at (833) 257-7546 at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. Failure to provide 24-hour notice will result in a no-show charge and will be collected to the extent permitted by law or applicable payor contracts. Any patient who cancels an appointment without providing 24 hours’ notice will be charged a fee.
FEES: The no-show fee is $50 for a Monday-Friday regular medical visit, $100 for Saturday appointments and $250 for a surgery-related appointment. In addition, the no-show fee is $99 for a cosmetic consultation and $250 for a cosmetic procedure.
All fees must be paid in full prior to your next appointment. Patients with repeat cancellations or missed appointments may be discharged from our practice at our discretion.
You may download and fill out our new patient forms before your appointment. This will give us access to your prior medical records and history before our dermatologists recommend any treatments or skincare products. Please bring a list of any medications you’re currently taking with the names and dosages and any known drug allergies. Many patients come with a list of questions or concerns for our skincare specialists. We also encourage you to check with your insurance provider to determine your plan coverage. Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment for our dermatology services.
If you’re a new patient, our dermatologists will want to conduct a thorough skin exam, checking every mole or rash for signs of abnormalities. If we detect any issues, we’ll discuss possible treatment options and schedule follow-up visits. Depending on the problem, we may also recommend professional skincare products for you to use at home. Cosmetic concerns, such as wrinkles or unexplained hair loss, will also be discussed during your consultation.
Referrals are not usually necessary. However, you may wish to consult your insurance provider to see if prior authorization is required for coverage of our dermatology services. Sometimes, insurance companies consider dermatologists as specialists that may require a written referral from your primary physician. It’s best to check, so you aren’t surprised by a bill later.

You can pay your bill on the patient portal. You will need your statement with the invoice number and amount owed.
Additional Dermatology and Tru-Skin FAQs
Tru-Skin Dermatology accepts most major insurance plans and methods of payment (credit and debit cards and third-party financing through CareCredit) for our dermatology services. You’ll find our pricing listed (*subject to change without notice) so you can get an idea about what to expect cost-wise for cosmetic treatments. We always advise patients to check with their insurance providers to see what’s covered under their specific insurance plans. Most plans require you to visit an in-network provider for the best coverage. If you choose to visit an out-of-network provider, you could end up paying more out-of-pocket. We also offer monthly specials, so be sure to check our website often for additional updates.
You should see a dermatologist at least once a year for a routine skin check. If you have specific skin concerns or a history of skin conditions, you may need to visit more frequently as advised by your dermatologist.

We’re usually able to see new patients within a short timeframe, thanks to the number of dermatologists we have at our seven convenient locations in Austin, Bastrop, Cedar Park, Hallettsville, La Grange, and Round Rock. Tru-Skin is now scheduling Telehealth appointments for the safety and convenience of our patients. Through the secure online Telehealth visit, we will be able to provide the same world-class care as face to face appointments, from the comfort of your own home. Patients will be able to remotely visit, in real-time, with our providers for many types of skin, hair and nail conditions. At your appointment time, we will call you to make sure you have received your link to get you started in our virtual waiting room. From there, we will connect your camera to our camera and you will be able to visit with your favorite Dermatologist or provider as if you were in the office.
What to Expect During your Telehealth Appointment?
A Tru-Skin Patient Concierge will give you a phone call 5-10 minutes before your appointment. At this time, he or she will verify your information.
A Tru-Skin Medical Assistant will then update your chart and send you a link to join the telehealth visit with your Board-Certified Dermatologist or Medical Provider.
When you click the link, you will be waiting in a virtual waiting room to connect with your provider. When the provider is ready for the visit, he or she will start the visit. Both you and the provider will be able to see each other and hear each other during the visit. During this time, you will conduct a complete Video Telehealth visit about your skin, hair or nails conditions. Prescriptions that are needed will be sent to your preferred pharmacy.
When the exam is over you will be connected with a Patient Concierge again to complete your visit. These types of Telehealth virtual visits will be billed to your insurance similar to an in-office visit.
