Whether you need a biopsy of a strange mole or the removal of a skin tag, we’ve got you covered. Not only do we offer medical dermatology procedures, but we offer cosmetic procedures as well. Whatever your dermatology needs might be, you can rely on the professionals at Tru-Skin Dermatology.

The Medical Dermatology Services We Offer

Patients can find a wide range of medical dermatology services and procedures at Tru-Skin Dermatology. These services and procedures include acne treatment, alopecia areata treatment, eczema treatment, keloid treatment, melanoma treatment, mole treatment, rosacea treatment, skin grafts, skin rash treatment, skin tag removal, skin cancer treatments, wrinkle treatment, and more. Below, we’ve gone into detail about each of these standard medical dermatology services and procedures we offer.

Acne Treatment

When acne is severe, postponing acne treatment can lead to darker spots and permanent scars. There are various benefits to undergoing treatment, such as boosted self-esteem, decreased emotional distress, and more. These reasons are why we work closely with our patients to develop an actionable acne treatment plan customized to their unique needs. We provide treatment for teenagers and adults. The most common acne treatment types include chemical peels, cortisone shots, and medications. Chemical peels are professionally applied to the skin roughly once every two to three weeks. The acids in chemical peel cause the skin to peel and blister, which functions as a signal to the cells to regenerate faster. Chemical peels can also be used in combination with other medications. Cortisone shots immediately reduce inflammation and swelling and minimize the likelihood of scarring. If a patient suffers from cystic acne, which cannot be topically treated, cortisone shots are ideal.

Alopecia Areata Treatment

While there is no cure for alopecia areata, there are treatment options available. Which treatment type is best for you will be determined by which form of alopecia areata you have. Treatment options for patients with mild cases focus on stopping or hindering the immune system’s attack on your follicles or stimulating hair growth. For patients with more severe cases, treatment includes oral and injectable medicines. However, these may not be effective for every patient and do not prevent future episodes of hair loss. Both injectable and topical corticosteroids are standard treatment options to stimulate hair production, along with topical minoxidil and anthralin cream.

Eczema Treatment

There is no cure for eczema, but we do offer eczema treatment. Most commonly, we will prescribe topical corticosteroids, or steroids, to reduce inflammation. Between visits to our dermatology office, however, there are also at-home treatments you can do to reduce itching. These include:

  • Trying not to scratch your skin.
  • Using topical steroid cream or over-the-counter antihistamine medicine to relieve itching.
  • Keeping your skin hydrated by using creams, lotions, and ointments two to three times a day. Make sure your products are free of alcohol, scents, dyes, or other irritants.
  • Avoiding scalding hot showers as they can dry out your skin. Instead, take cooler baths and apply lotion when you get out and dry off.
  • Knowing your triggers so that you can avoid exposure
  • Keeping your fingernails short and maintained to reduce damage from scratching. Invest in some light gloves if you scratch your skin in your sleep.

Keloid Treatment

We offer effective keloid treatment for our valued patients. Our go-to keloid treatment option is superficial radiation therapy with the SRT-100 VISION Vision. Radiation therapy with the SRT-100 VISION can remove your unsightly and sometimes painful keloids and restore your confidence. In the past, keloid treatment involved surgery, but keloids would often grow back at the new incision site.

Melanoma Treatment

If you have been diagnosed with melanoma, visit Tru-Skin Dermatology for melanoma treatment. The majority of melanoma treatment options are surgical. If you need treatment, we will create an individualized plan dependent on your current situation and the stage of your melanoma. We offer Mohs surgery, the most advanced and highly-effective skin cancer surgery currently available. We also offer skin biopsies, curettage, surgical excision, freezing, and more.

Mole Treatment

If you want to remove a mole, we offer mole treatment. Whether you have a cancerous mole or one you simply wish to remove for cosmetic reasons, we can help. We perform surgical excision with minimal scarring. Smaller moles can essentially be “shaved off.” If you have a larger mole, we may simply cut it out and sew the wound edges together. In the event of an even larger mole, the excision may be done in stages (known as serial excision).

Rosacea Treatment

There are different options when it comes to rosacea treatment. At Tru-Skin Dermatology, we are dedicated to helping you find the treatment process that works best for you and your skin. While there is no cure for rosacea, these treatments can prevent your symptoms from worsening. They can also help you stay more comfortable and reduce the physical signs on your skin. These treatments include:

  • Knowing and avoiding your triggers
  • Protecting your skin from excess sun exposure using sunscreen and protective clothing
  • Antibiotics
  • Laser treatment
  • Photofacial treatment
  • Topical ointments
  • Mild skin products
  • Avoiding scrubbing and harsh treatment on your skin

Skin Grafts

Since 2004, Tru-Skin Dermatology has provided skin grafts to Central Texas patients who needed them. We offer full-thickness, and Cogenex® skin grafts, for clients with severe burns, infections, or wounds, as well as those who have had skin removed because of skin cancer. Skin grafts cover up wounds and facilitate a faster healing process.

Skin Rash Treatment

At Tru-Skin Dermatology, patients can undergo premier skin rash treatment for lupus rash, allergy rashes, athlete’s foot, shingles rash, eczema, hives, and more. When you visit Tru-Skin Dermatology, we will run a thorough investigation to determine the cause of your skin rash. As it could be related to a host of issues, treatment will vary.

Skin Tag Removal

When it comes to skin tag removal, there are various options, including snipping with medical scissors or scalpel, freezing with liquid nitrogen, or burning with electrocautery. To achieve the best cosmetic result, we’ll assess your skin tags and their locations before deciding on a method of removal. And regardless of the removal method, we will administer a local anesthetic for numbing.

Skin Cancer Treatments

We offer a wide array of skin cancer treatments at Tru-Skin Dermatology, as well as free skin cancer screenings. Our treatment options for skin cancer include surgical and non-surgical options. Our go-to non-surgical option is the SRT-100 VISION Vision™. Our surgical options include Mohs surgery, skin biopsies, mole removals, curettage, and surgical excisions.

Wrinkle Treatment

If you’re seeking wrinkle treatment, the team at Tru-Skin Dermatology has options for you. With each of our wrinkle treatment options, we customize our approach based on the patient’s unique circumstances. Additionally, we sometimes suggest using topical creams in conjunction with these treatments to maximize their effects. The most common aesthetic wrinkle treatments we offer are:
